Heiner Goebbels

Heiner Goebbels is a composer and director. Professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, Germany.
Heiner Goebbels is the Wunderkind of the contemporary music and theatre scene, adored and despised. His compositions and performances are performed all over the world. Goebbels performances add new dimensions to the term Gesamtkunstwerk. Like Wagner, Stockhausen and a few others, Goebbels has achieved the integrated artwork, fusing sound, image and movement into an entity. In the last ten years he composed and staged several works with texts by Gertrude Stein: “Landscape with man being killed by a snake” 1997 for the documenta X in Kassel, “Hashirigaki” 2000 with music by the Beach Boys, an Opera “Landscape with Distant Relatives” at the Opera Geneve in 2002, and last year “Songs of Wars I have Seen” a staged concert with the London Sinfonietta and the Orchestra in the Age of Enlightenment at the Southbank Centre London.
