Jón Páll Eyjólfsson

Jón Páll Eyjólfsson (ICE) graduateded as an actor from East 15 acting school in London England in 2000. Worked with various companies including the National Theatre (2001, 2002, 2006) in Iceland and The Young Vic Theatre Company in London (2000) as an actor. He directed and devised a fringe production “You know how it is” (2004) and was nominated for the DV. Cultural prize. He directed “Freedom” at the National Theatre in Iceland (2005), Ladybird by V.Sigarev (2006) and Herr Kolpert by D.Gieselmann (2007) at the Akureyri theatre Company and was nominated for the Gríma (Icelandic theatre awards) as Director of the year for both pieces. He directed “Censor” 2006 a fringe production. He directed the graduating Actors at the Icelandic Arts University in “White Rabbit” a devised piece (2006) and does now teach courses on devised theatre at the Icelandic Art University. He directed “Frelserens Genkomst” (2007) premiered at K2 Copenhagen. He also devised with Jón Atli Jónasson “Partiland” (2007) at The National Theatre of Iceland for the Reykjavík Arts Festival. And has with Jón Atli devised site specific projects, IMDA The Icelandic Missile Defense Agency an experiment in dialogue about defense and weapons in a modern democracy (2007) and in 2006 “Highlands in your mind” and experiment in dialogue on conserving nature digitally in order to expedite damming of glacial rivers. He directed “Here and now” a devised musical at the Reykjavik City Theatre in 2007."Here and now" was chosen for the Tampere theatre festival and was also chosen for the Ruhr Theatre Festival (Ruhrfestspiele). He directed the "Lonesome West" at the City Theatre in 2008 and "Oscar and the Pink Lady" in 2009 at the same theatre. And in 2009 he co wrote and co produced and performed "You are here" a new Icelandic play which tackles the current political and economic climate in Iceland. "You are Here" was performed at the Nordwind Festival in Berlin at the HAU3 in 2009. He directed "The Walworth Farce" at the RCT in 2009. In 2010 he co-wrote co-directed and performed "The Good People of Iceland" a RCT and Mindgroup production and "The Good People of Iceland" performed at Wiesbaden festival "New Plays from Europe"
