Leandro Kees

Leandro Kees was born in Patagonia, Argentina. In 1997 he enrolled on film and theatre studies at the Patagonic University of Arts where he made his first contact with contemporary dance. In 1999 he joined the National School of Drama in Buenos Aires where he also started to work with release-based techniques, contact improvisation and aerial-dance, and worked as a dancer for national choreographers. In 2001 he decided to focus on dance and moved to Germany to study at the Folkwang University. Following his increasing interest in the relationship between dance and video and performance, he joined the department of electronic composition at the same institution as a guest student. Through self-taught research and workshops, he continued to develop an interdisciplinary approach to performance over the following five years. As a dancer, he performed for Susanne Linke, Samir Akika, Mark Siezcarek, Ben J. Riepe and others. In 2008 and 2009 he was invited to work as choreographer and dancer for the Folkwang Tanzstudio under artistic direction of Rodolpho Leoni and Pina Bausch. In 2010 he was selceted for the Production Grant 2010 by Tanzplan Dresden, to create a piece coproduced by The Sempler Oper, Hellerau and the Palucca School. Also in 2010 he is invited as a guest teacher and director for the department of Physical Theater of the Folkwang University.
Alongside his research as a choreographer, he works in active cooperation with actors, composers, video makers and other artists in interdisciplinary projects.
He currently lives and works in NRW, Germany.
