Carol Martin

Carol Martin is a professor of Drama, Tisch School of the Arts,New York University. Her forthcoming book, Faux Real, will be published by Palgrave. Martin is the editor of the critically acclaimed anthology Dramaturgy of the Real on the World Stage (2010), Feminism and Theatre (1995), and Brecht Sourcebook with Henry Bial (2000) as well as guest editor of special issues of TDR devoted to documentary theatre (2006) and Japanese Theatre (2001). Her essays and interviews have appeared in anthologies, academic journals in the U.S. and abroad and The New York Times and have been translated into Turkish, French, Polish, Chinese, Romanian, and Japanese. Martin is the General Editor of “In Performance” a book series devoted to post 9/11 performance texts and plays published by Seagull Books. She was the curator of “A Series of Evenings on Documentary Theatre” at the Martin E. Segal Theatre at CUNY’s Graduate Center. Her awards include: Visiting Professor Fellowship at Tokyo University, Komaba; Best Issue of the Year by Professional/Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers for a special issue of TDR on Japanese performance (co-edited with Nanako Kurihara); and the De La Torre Bueno for her book, Dance Marathons; Fulbright, National Endowment for the Humanities, and a Mellon Grant. She received a Ph.D. from the Department of Performance Studies at New York University.
