Nikolaus Müller-Schöll

Nikolaus MÜller-SchÖll is professor of theatre and performance studies at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Müller-Schöll studied in Avignon, Hamburg and Baltimore, where he graduated at Johns Hopkins University. He got a Ph.D. from the university of Frankfurt/Main with a study on the theatre theory of Walter Benjamin, Bertolt Brecht and Heiner Müller, and taught at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, as well as in Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Nantes. From 2004 to 2009, he worked as assistant professor at the department of theatre studies of the Ruhr University, Bochum, and for two semesters as professor at the department of Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen. He also worked as freelance dramaturge, theatre critic and translator. Amongst his publications are: Das Theater des konstruktiven Defaitismus' (2002), Politik der Vorstellung. Theater und Theorie (Co-ed. 2006), Heiner Müller sprechen (Co-ed., 2009).
