Voice Teacher Lena Hellström-Färnlöf

Lena Hellström-Färnlöf studied at the Academy of Music and Drama at Gothenburg University and the University School of Opera in Stockholm and pursued further studies abroad with Vera Rosza, Oren Brown and René Jacobs. As an opera singer Lena has performed many roles such as Proserpina, Blondchen, Adele, Antonia, Frasquita and Madame Cortese. In addition Lena has performed a large repertory of concert and recital music from medieval to modern music in Europe.

Since 2004 Lena has devoted herself to teaching. She taught for many years at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. In 2009 Lena was made a Senior Lecturer at the University and received in 2010 the designation of Excellent teacher. Since 2011 Lena was appointed Professor at Mälardalen University and divides her time between teaching at the University and engagements abroad including teaching assignments in the United Kingdom, Italy, Denmark, Finland and in Canada.

Vocal coach Audrey Hyland

Audrey Hyland studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, winning all the major prizes for accompaniment and chamber music. Shortly after leaving the Guildhall she won the Sir Henry Richardson Prize for accompanists and completed her studies at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and at the Britten Pears School in Aldeburgh, where she later joined the accompaniment and coaching staff.

Audrey is professor at the Royal Academy of Music where she works with both singers and accompanists, and is also on the coaching staff of the Royal College of Music, the National Opera Studio and the Covent Garden Young Artist Programme, London. She has given Master Classes in Canada, Denmark, England, South Korea and Sweden.

Movement specialist for singers Mandy Dementriou

Mandy Demetriou is originally from Zimbabwe and has worked as a dancer, chore- ographer, teacher and performer in a wide variety of styles and methods. Her passion is dance and movement and she works with dancers, actors, singers and musicians. Her work has been informed by the techniques of Classical Ballet, Jazz Dance – Matt Mattox style, Laban Technique, Alexander Technique, Pilates, Ballroom Dance, Fla- menco. Feldenkrais technique, yoga and many other styles of dance and movement based techniques.

Her work in movement for singers is however, a specialist area in which she has been particularly interested as it requires a deep understanding of the voice, the singer and what they need to enable them to sing and also show emotions and thoughts in their movement.

Mandy has worked as Movement Director / choreographer at Royal Opera House, Holland Park, English National Opera, Opera North and British Youth Opera of which she also sits on the Artistic Committee. She has also worked for the Royal Shakespeare Theatre’s education project, a Shakespearean masque at Queens College Cambridge and for stage on The Madras House (Lyric Hammersmith), Woman Who Cooked Her Husband (Nottingham Playhouse), Pepys (Good Compa- ny).

Settle in at the School from 3 PM.
Afternoon: Welcome and presentation
Evening: Dinner
Mornings: Group movement class and individual lessons
Afternoons: individual lessons
Morning: Group movent class and individual lessons
Afternoon: Concert rehearsal and concert.
Saturday: Departure after breakfast


Accommodation at Den Danske Scenekunstskole, Odsherred which is situated in Annebergparken with views over the bay of Nykøbing Sjælland. Every participant has her/his own room, however, bathrooms are shared.


DKK. 6.950,00 (€ 930,00)
The price includes tuition, accommodation and all meals.

To enrol, a deposit of DKK. 1.000,00 must be paid. An invoice will be sent after approval.

The remaining balance is due for payment latest 15th of May 2016.

North Sea Vocal Academy in Denmark

The courses at the North Sea Vocal Academy are very intensive. The singers get daily individual singing lessons, vocal coaching, individual and group movement sessions. The accompanists get daily individual tuition with the vocal coach and coaching from singing teachers along with accompaniment of the singers.
